Eating & Shopping
In every direction is a gastronomic paradise including the gourmet shops of rue Rambuteau and the famous rue Montorgueil with its fresh food street market and the oldest pastry shop in Paris, Stohrer, established in 1730. Or 10 mins walk in the opposite direction are the oldest covered markets in Paris, the Marché des Enfants Rouges, in the haute marais.
As for shopping, the marais is full of designer stores, trendy fashion boutiques, artisan galleries and street arts. Close by are the BHV Department Store (opposite the Hôtel de Ville) and Les Halles shopping precinct, reopened after a major renovation . Going upmarket, head on to the uber sophisticated new Samaritaine. In the opposite direction you will reach the spectacular Opéra Garnier which is nearby the famous Galleries Lafayette and Printemps department stores.
